Overseas Domestic Worker Visa

An overseas domestic worker visa allows you to enter the UK with your employer as a domestic worker which includes nannies, cooks, cleaners, chauffeurs, and personal carers. As a domestic worker, your employer must be a British citizen who usually lives outside the UK and does not intend to spend more than six months in the UK or a foreign citizen visiting the UK who does not intend to stay more than 6 months.

Additionally, you must have been employed for at least one year prior to the submission of the visa application. The visa can be granted for up to a maximum period of 6 months. This visa does not allow you to apply for indefinite leave to remain.

Who can apply for a Overseas Domestic Worker Visa?

To apply for an overseas domestic worker visa, you generally must meet the following requirements:

  • Be over the age of 19.
  • Must have worked with your employer for at least one year and must work in the same household as your employer.
  • Your employer must be a British citizen who usually lives outside the UK and does not intend to spend more than six months in the UK or a foreign citizen visiting the UK who does not intend to stay more than 6 months.
  • You must intend to work as a full-time domestic worker in the UK household where your employer resides.
  • Must plan to travel to the UK with your employer, their partner, or children.
  • Must be able to support yourself in the UK without recourse to public funds.
  • Must plan to leave the UK within 6 months or sooner.
  • Your employer should pay you at least the National Minimum Wage.
