UK Ancestry Visa
An UK ancestry visa application can be made by individuals who are a Commonwealth citizen, British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen, British national (overseas) citizen or a Zimbabwean citizen and can prove that one of your grandparents was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. You would also need to evidence that you have adequate maintenance and that you intend to work in the UK.
The visa is initially granted for a period of 5 years. After completing a period of 5 years, you may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain which is also known as settlement or you can apply to extend your visa for a further 5 years provided that the relevant criteria continue to be met.

Who can apply for a UK Ancestry Visa?
To apply for a UK ancestry visa, you generally must meet the following requirements:
- Be aged at least 17 years old.
- Be a Commonwealth citizen, British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen, British national (overseas) citizen or a Zimbabwean citizen.
- Prove that one of your grandparents was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, born before 31 March 1922 in what is now Ireland or born on a ship that was either registered in the UK or belonged to the UK government.
- Have the minimum amount of savings required to support yourself.
- Intend to work in the UK or have a job offer.
