Parent of a Child Visa
A parent of a child visa allows an overseas national to live and settle in the UK on the basis of having either sole responsibility or shared parental responsibility with a child in the UK. The child must be under the age of 18 at the date of the initial application. Additionally the child must be British (or Irish), settled (i.e. they have indefinite leave to remain or settled status), an EEA national with pre-settled status (who started living in the UK before 1 January 2021) or if you are applying from within the UK, the child must have lived in the UK for at least 7 years and it would not be reasonable for them to leave the UK.
The visa is initially granted for a period of 30 months and can be extended for a further 30 months provided that the relevant criteria continue to be met. After completing a period of 5 years, you may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain which is also known as settlement. In some cases depending on the circumstances, you may need to wait for a period of 10 years until you are eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain.
We understand where children are involved, immigration processes can be stressful for not only the children but also the parents wishing to join their children in the UK. It is therefore important to ensure that your parent of a child visa application is completed correctly and that you include all the necessary documents to strengthen the chances of your success. We have the experience and knowledge to assist you with your parent of a child visa application.
